How to report a pothole in under a minute

Reporting a pothole on Pothole Map takes less than a minute. Here's how to make your report count.

1. Get the location right. Use your phone's GPS, type the postcode, or tap the map, then drag the yellow pin to the exact spot on the road.

2. Take a clear photo. Stand back far enough to show the pothole in context. If it's safe, place a familiar object nearby (like a shoe) for scale. Never step into the road to take a photo.

3. Rate the severity honestly. Deep, wheel-swallowing potholes are a 4 or 5; a shallow surface crack is a 1 or 2.

4. Leave your name and email. We'll only use it to ask you, later on, whether the pothole has been fixed, that confirmation is what keeps the map accurate.

Your report appears on the public map straight away, and you can share it with neighbours or your local councillor with a single link.
