How we work

1. You report the pothole

You photograph the pothole and we record the exact location and time of capture alongside it. That pairing of image, coordinates and timestamp is what makes a report useful to everyone else.

2. It goes live, then we check it

Your report appears on the public map straight away. We then check that the photo shows a genuine defect, that the location looks right and that it isn’t a duplicate of an existing report, and we remove anything that does not belong.

3. Anyone can search it

Reports on the map can be searched by anyone, free of charge, with no account needed. The more of the country is covered, the more useful the map becomes.

What we cannot do

• We are not a council, a highway authority or a repair service.
• Reporting a pothole here does not report it to the council responsible.
• A report on the map is one person's account of a road at one moment; conditions change.
