Phase 2: the council leaderboard

One of the most exciting developments in the PotholeMap roadmap is the council repair leaderboard, and it is coming in Phase 2.

PotholeMap is completely free to use. It exists to improve the UK's roads, and to put public pressure on local authorities to fix them. The leaderboard is where that pressure becomes visible.

The leaderboard is not active yet. Right now the map is in Phase 1, where the focus is simple: the public reports potholes, and we build a reliable, honest picture of the state of UK roads.

Once the site has gathered enough data, the leaderboard will switch on. It will rank local authorities on how quickly and reliably they repair the potholes the public reports, using repair rates, typical repair times and confirmed repair checks from the people who reported them. The councils that fix roads will get the credit they deserve, and the ones that do not will have nowhere to hide.

There is a deliberate rule behind it: a council only appears once it has enough genuine reports to make a ranking fair. Sample entries never count, and we would rather show an empty table than a misleading one.

That means every report you make today matters twice. It warns other road users now, and it builds the evidence that will hold councils to account in Phase 2.
