Why we built Pothole Map

Every year, potholes cause millions of pounds of damage to vehicles across the UK, broken springs, buckled wheels, ruined tyres. Yet most potholes are reported only to the council, where the report disappears into a system the public never sees.

Pothole Map exists to change that. Every report submitted here appears on a public map, visible to everyone: residents, journalists, and councils alike. When a pothole is marked as repaired, we ask the original reporter to confirm it, so the map stays honest.

Over the coming months we'll be publishing data on which councils repair potholes fastest, and which roads are repeatedly patched and re-broken. The more reports on the map, the stronger that picture becomes.
